Model validation of mechanical face seals in two-phase flow conditions

A steady-state one-dimensional axisymmetric numerical model of a mechanical seal in two-phase flow is presented. In this work non-linear thermal implemented using coupled (monolithic) approach, linking the fluid film and sealing rings. It solved for temperature fields solids, heat fluxes between fluids enthalpy fluid, vapor mass fraction, Newtons method. The novelty approach lies 1) coupling 2) implementation saturation curves to couple temperature, enthalpy, fraction. across gap described by an analytical parabolic profile assuming plane Couette radial direction. From assumption, equation wall derived, which couples solids. IAPWS-IF97 standard thermodynamic properties water used obtain equations that its detail. Several cases behavior are studied show good agreement with other results from literature, validating modelling phase-change seals.
